The Meaning of Tauheed

Amongst the A’mal Batini [inner actions], which are necessary for the human to acquire, one is ‘Tauheed’. One meaning of Tauheed you’ve learnt already in the science of ‘Aqaid [articles of faith]. Which is that the human agrees to the Lord being one and does not associate anyone with Him. This is Tauheed ‘Ateqadi [the belief of Tauheed] which a humans Iman [faith] depends on and without it a human can not be a Muslim at all.

My father respected Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi’ (rahmatullah alayh) would say, one day in a year business people close their businesses, to take account of the whole year’s business and to find out how much loss and profit was made. In the same way we need as well to take account of how much we have studied through out the year and how much we practiced upon and what changes came. Not that it’ll be like this…

On the Prohibition of Music

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ
“From amongst men there are those who purchase ‘lahw al hadith’ without knowledge, to mislead from the Path of Allah and they ridicule it. For them there is a humiliating punishment.” (Luqmân: 6)

A detailed research has been made by Maulana Ismail Moosa, a student from the Darul Iftaa of Madrasa In’aamiyyah (Camperdown, SA), and it of course has been approved by the respected Mufti Ebrahim Desai (damat barkatuhum aliah).

تنبيه للاحباء الى تحريم الغناء (trans. A Caution for our Companions on the Prohibition of Music) is packed with evidences from both the Holy Qur’an and Ahadith. On top of that the verdicts of numerous Sahabah & Tabi’een, ‘Ulama of all four Madhab (and even Ghair Muqallid) and various recent ‘Ulama leave no space for doubts any longer. Even the misconception people have about the use of duffs has been dealt with.

Permanent Residence in Makkah Mukarramah

Hazrat Ibn Abbaas (RA) reports that Rasulullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said to Makkah: “What a wonderful city you are and how I love you. Had my people not forced me out of you, I would never have settled in any other city save you.” (Tirmidhi)

As a result of the contents of this hadith as well as those expounding the increased reward for righteous deeds in Makkah, the majority of ulama believe that Makkah is the most virtuous (afdhal) of all towns, and to stay there permanently or in a temporary as capacity, is most virtuous. Who would not like to be able to settle there when one salaat is rewarded one hundred thousand times? Yet in spite of all this many of our saintly elders did not advocate residence in Makkah (for longer than necessary).
